One More Sunset

I had a patient that was 99 years of age, a big strapping man, he was sleeping longer and eating less, losing weight, and having trouble walking. He had a personal caregiver that attended to all his needs, while awake he would get out of bed with assistance, and needed help to transfer to the wheelchair. Eat a few bites at every breakfast, lunch and dinner, and bedtime snack. He wanted to visit his hunting ranch one more time, sit on the front porch and watch the sunset one more time. We made arrangements with his daughters for transportation and contacted all the law enforcement departments between Crosby and Plano, Texas. We especially wanted the law enforcement department to know that our patient was a hospice patient. One of his daughters put him in the back seat of his Cadillac packed the O2 concentrator in the truck, kept a smaller O2 tack in the car with him and off they went. He spent 1 ½ days at the hunting camp and one more sunset. Returned home and passed away on New Years night.

Dear Grace Hospice,
The M family would like to send our gratitude for the wonderful care of our wife and mother that Grace Hospice provided for the past four years.  Our fabulous nurses – TL, CR, and AB were our chosen blessings from God.  They were always loving, caring, attentive, compassionate, professional, and highly knowledgeable at each and every visit.  They each became family to our family.  Our nurse practitioner, SF, was extremely compassionate, caring, and knowledgeable at every visit as well.  Father Jhon always helped us spiritually and blessed Mom each time he came.  We know that our mom and wife received the best care from these fine professionals.  We will never forget them and all they did to care for our sweet A, as well as their loving visits with our dad H.  We know Mom is back to her old self in heaven.  She is missed immensely, but we also know that during her illness, she was well taken care of by her family and your awesome staff! Our heartfelt thanks and love, H, L & N M

Many thanks to all of you who came to our home to care for J.  What a blessing you are to us who need you and your help.  To those who brought supplies, gave baths, set up bed, chaplain who prayed with me, and I am sure there are others, including D his RN, and some I probably did not meet.  Thank you all.  GB

A special thank you to all the Grace staff for the memorial service held yesterday.  I regret that I was unable to attend the very nice service C reported it was.  I am sure that P would have been pleased with the event.  I wish to sincerely thank you and all the workers at Grace Hospice for the wonderful love and kindness you gave to her over the last 44 months of her life.  I shall always remember and appreciate the splendid dedication your people gave to your patients who need your great help in their last months of life.  Again, sincere thanks and may the good Lord bless you all.  With warm wishes, CV

Grace Hospice of Texas was founded in 2003 by Romeo Villarreal, RN, and Kim Thibodeaux, RN, who are still very active in the company.  The staff consists of people who believe that care of our patients is more than a job and is a ministry performed with a servant’s heart for God’s children on their journey home.  Our logo symbolizes the grace bestowed on us by God through the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ.
